President Joe Biden said Wednesday that former President Donald Trump will not accept the results of the 2024 election.
“The president might not accept the election results? I promise he won’t,” Biden said in an interview with CNN, adding, “It’s dangerous.”
Biden answered questions about Trump’s comments in an interview with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel last week.
“If everything is honest, I’m willing to accept the outcome. I’m not going to change that. If not, we have to fight for our country’s rights,” Trump said.
“This guy is not a Democrat with a little ‘d’,” Biden said of his rival Wednesday.
The Biden campaign and the White House have previously responded to President Trump’s statements. Biden has also previously accused Trump of election denialism and portrayed him as a threat to democracy. His assertion Wednesday directly predicted how Trump will act in November.
“In short, Trump is a danger to the Constitution and a threat to our democracy,” Biden campaign spokesman James Singer said in a statement last week about Trump’s comments to the Journal Sentinel.
“The American people will hand him another defeat in this November’s election because they continue to reject his extremism, love of violence, and thirst for revenge,” Singer continued.
Separately, at a media gathering last week, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre denounced “dangerous election-denial conspiracy theories” promoted by some on the right.
“There is no place where I would put myself above the rest of the country,” Jean-Pierre said in response to a question about Trump’s comments. “As President Biden has previously promised, we will accept the will of the American people.”
In a recent interview, Mr. Trump doubled down on his doubts about the election results. Asked in an interview with NBC affiliate WGAL (Lancaster, Pennsylvania) on Tuesday whether he thought he should have accepted the 2020 election results, he replied, “No, it would have been terrible.” Ta. He then added that “there should always be a right to contest elections” if fair and free elections are not held.
In an interview with Time magazine last month, Trump was asked about the possibility of political violence if he loses the election.
“If we don’t win, it depends on the situation,” he said.
“It’s always about the integrity of elections. I don’t think they can do what they did last time. I don’t think they can get away with it,” Trump said. “If we do, we will win in record-setting fashion.”
