With the current golf boom, you might think that golf-related companies, especially equipment-related companies, would all be posting record profits. But today’s unexpected announcement shows just the opposite.
Lamkin Grips, which has been in business for nearly 100 years, announced this morning that it has been acquired by SuperStroke.
SuperStroke CEO Dean Dingman:
“We are proud and grateful to announce that Lamkin, a golf club grip brand with a 100-year history of groundbreaking design and trusted products, is now part of the SuperStroke brand. We have always had the utmost respect for the way the Lamkin family designs their grips with the golfer’s needs and interests in mind. If there’s any grip company that best aligns with SuperStroke’s commitment to uncompromising research, design and development to put the most useful performance tools in the hands of golfers, it’s Lamkin. We are proud to introduce Lamkin’s wealth of product innovation to his SuperStroke series. ”

The announcement does not say whether Lamkin and SuperStroke will remain separate entities with their own catalogs, but given Lamkin’s long-standing reputation and name recognition, it seems likely . What is clear, however, is that Bob Lamkin will continue to serve as a director and remain involved in the future running of the business.
This certainly wasn’t what I expected when I woke up this morning, but it will be interesting to see how this acquisition impacts each company’s products and brand partnerships going forward.
