Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly on Friday condemned Arizona Republican Senate candidate Kari Lake’s recent violent comments, saying on NBC News’ “Meet the Press” that Lake’s comments made people ” “They could injure or kill them,” he said.

Asked about comments made by Lake at a campaign event last month, first reported by NBC, Kelly, a Democrat, said: “They’re going to come after us with legal means, they’re going to come after us with everything. That’s why the next six months are going to be tough. And what do we have to do?”

She added, “We’re going to buckle up. We’re going to put on our helmets or Kali Lake ball caps. We’re going to put on the armor of God. And we’re going to put on our Glocks, just in case.” Please secure it with a strap on the side.

“When you’re a candidate for the United States Senate, you have to be careful with your words, and we’ve seen this throughout history,” Kelly told host Kristen Welker in an interview broadcast Sunday. I admonished Mr. Lake for his rhetoric.” I hope people reject it, but I think they should consider their language and try to respond better in the future. ”

The senator reflected on the 2011 shooting that killed his wife, then a member of Congress, and spoke about his personal experience with political violence. Gabby Giffords seriously injured.

Recommendation

“She was shot in the head during a rally with voters, killing six people. Eighteen more people were injured, including her. This was a horrific act of political violence,” Kelly told Welker.

“What we need are elected officials who want to lead this country in a better direction, who accept the results of the election, who don’t use language that incites their supporters, and who want to lead this country in a better direction. United States Senate We don’t need people like that.”They feel comfortable using such language,” he added.

Lake, a former television news anchor, is running for his second consecutive election after narrowly losing the 2022 Arizona gubernatorial race. She is currently running for a vacant Senate seat against Democratic Rep. Ruben Gallego, who is being supported by Kelly. Supported.
