The Texas A&M Aggies are hitting the ground running under new head coach Mike Elko, both in the transfer portal and on the recruiting trail.

In fact, right now, the Aggies have a score of 91.07 in the On3 Team Recruiting Rankings, which ranks them 17th in the nation and 9th in the SEC.

However, they seem to be just getting started.

According to On3 recruiting expert Steve Wiltfong, Texas A&M is likely to land not one but two of the nation’s top defensive backs, starting with five-star safety Ball (Galveston, Texas). It is said that Jonah Williams will be the first to be officially appointed. She visited College Station on June 7th.

“I think the Aggies are the favorites heading into the official visit,” Wiltfong said. “I think the Oklahoma thing has settled down, and right now we’re discussing Jonah Williams and Texas A&M’s RPM (Recruiting Prediction Machine) pick.

Currently, Williams ranks as the No. 10 player in the country, No. 1 safety in the country and No. 3 player in the state of Texas in the On3 industry rankings. And if he ends up contributing to the Aggies during his official visit, he will instantly become the highest-rated recruit on Mike Elko’s board.

So what gives Texas A&M an edge over other power programs like Ohio State, LSU, Oregon, Texas, and USC?

Wiltfong said it’s the coaching staff, and he believes Williams is one of the best development staffs for defensive backs in the nation.

“He said the coaching staff excites him on another level,” Wiltfong said. “He talked about his track record of player development. Mike Elko had players like Kyle Hamilton and Jesse Bates, but the way they wanted to use Jonah schematically as a Swiss Army knife was exciting to him. So I think Texas A&M has momentum.” ”

But Williams isn’t the only top defensive back excited about Elko and his staff.

Another important name the Aggies are eyeing as well is four-star cornerback Coby Sellers from Shadow Creek (Pearland, Texas). He is currently ranked No. 165 in the nation, No. 20 among cornerbacks and No. 28 among cornerbacks. Texas, according to On3 industry rankings.

And like Williams, Sellers is excited about the growth and turnaround that comes with playing for Elko, Ishmael Aristide and Jordan Peterson.

“After several visits in the spring to meet this new Texas A&M staff, they are trending here,” Wiltfong said. “This is one of the first prospects for a new staff to hit the ground running with Coach (Artisted) and Coach Elko leading the way. And when Coach Peterson was hired from Kansas State, We’ve been working hard on this recruitment…At one point, Oklahoma was considered the favorite, but now Texas A&M is the winner.”

Like Williams, Sellers is scheduled to take an official visit to Aggieland on June 7, giving Texas A&M a chance to make a big statement as perhaps the top destination for defensive back recruits in the county this summer. It is being

And if Wiltfong is indeed right, they have a chance to do just that.

“The Aggies could add Coby Sellers. I think Jonah Williams is trending right now. And Trey McNutt, another elite safety out of Ohio State, is a top three or four for him. It’s in,” Wiltfong said. “Texas A&M has an opportunity to put together some of the special defensive back talent in the country.”
