New social media competitors are rapidly gaining traction. AirChat is an audio-based platform founded by Naval Ravikant, a respected entrepreneur and former CEO of AngelList.

Unlike traditional social networks that rely heavily on text and images, AirChat brings a new focus to voice, allowing users to connect more naturally and authentically.

AirChat was originally released in 2023, but was re-released last week.

Do not miss it:

Branded “Just Talk,” AirChat’s philosophy is simple. The platform emphasizes the importance of voice communication and calls itself a “social transceiver.”

“All humans are wired to get along with other humans, and all we need is a natural voice,” Ravikant told TechCrunch. “Online, text-only media gives us the illusion that people can’t get along, but the reality is that everyone can get along.”

This approach harks back to the days of early internet chat rooms, but with a modern twist that follows a similar model to Clubhouse, the audio app that once dominated social media conversations.

Clubhouse gained popularity during the pandemic as people craved human interaction while isolated in lockdown, but has since struggled to keep up.

Like Clubhouse, AirChat operates on an invitation-only basis, increasing exclusivity and community vetting. This method ensures high quality engagement and interaction between users.

Despite this tight control, AirChat quickly rose to #21 in the social networking apps category on the Apple App Store.

“We intend to stand alongside X as a platform for free speech,” Ravikanth said in an AirChat post.

As AirChat continues to grow and attract users from all walks of life, it becomes a promising alternative to the social media status quo, prioritizing voice over text and human connection over virtual likes.

Whether AirChat maintains its initial momentum and reshapes social media culture remains to be seen, but its innovative approach and founder’s vision suggest it may be here for the long haul. Masu.
