BROWNSVILLE, Texas (VALLEY CENTRAL) — The Mexican Consulate in Brownsville is seeking participants for this year’s Women Entrepreneurship Program.
This program is designed for Mexican and Spanish-speaking women abroad who are interested in becoming business owners.
In the coming months, the consulate will train women on how to start businesses in the Rio Grande Valley.
This program is also open to women outside the border.
“In Mexico, we understand that what is good for the valley is good for our neighbors,” said Judith Arrieta, Consul General of Mexico. “Any woman from Matamoros who wants to participate can do so.”
Arrieta wants to strengthen the relationship between Texas and Mexico, as Mexico’s National Financial Authority will provide resources for the program.
She also wants to support equal opportunity for women in the Valley.
“They’re winners. They’re warriors. They’re women – why women? Why women? Because sometimes we think a lot of work and a lot of things are thought of for men. , because I think maybe men can do it,” Arrieta said.
The program then puts the women’s business plans into a competition. Since its launch last year, the program will announce three “winners” in September who will compete with new companies overseas, she said.
Women can apply for the program through May 13 on the Brownsville Consulate’s website and social media.
