CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — Good news for drivers who keep their gas tanks full. According to GasBuddy, gas prices are falling in Champaign County and may continue to do so for some time.

Last week, prices at the county’s 79 gas stations dropped an average of 7 cents per gallon, now at $3.53. That’s 7 cents cheaper than the average price a month ago and 27 cents cheaper than this time last year.

Illinois lawmakers celebrate as EPA re-authorizes summer sales of high-ethanol blended gasoline

“We’re growing more confident by the day, and the spring ceiling is in sight. Average gas prices are starting to fall in many regions. For now, few Americans need to worry about rising gas prices. “The risk appears to have passed and should ease within the next few weeks,” said Patrick de Haan, head of oil analysis at GasBuddy. “There may be some hurricane-related issues later in the summer, but for now we feel we have reached a crescendo.” There should be optimism that the summer will be in line with expectations at the beginning of the year, and will likely not feature record gas prices. We’re very excited that the seasonal gas price increases appear to be over. ”

The cheapest gas in Champaign County sells for $3.02 per gallon, according to GasBuddy data. The most expensive gasoline sells for $3.79 per gallon.

The average across Illinois is $3.93 per gallon, with station prices ranging from $2.99 per gallon all the way up to $8.77 per gallon. The national average is $3.63 per gallon, down 2 cents from last week.
