Nvidia, an American multinational and technology company, announced on Wednesday that it has signed an agreement to acquire Run:ai, an Israeli startup provider of workload management and orchestration software.
According to a statement from Nvidia, the company established its first Israeli office in 2016 with a focus on its startup program “Nvidia Inception.” In 2018, we expanded our scope by opening an AI Research Center led by Professor Gal Chechik to focus on advanced AI and machine learning research.
In March 2019, Nvidia announced plans to acquire Israeli company Mellanox Technologies, a “world leader in high-speed networking technology,” for US$6.9 billion. After completing the acquisition of Mellanox Technologies in 2020, Nvidia became one of Israel’s largest high-tech companies.
In April 2024, the company announced plans to acquire Run:ai, an Israeli startup known for its Kubernetes-based workload management software.
Israeli innovation
Nvidia claimed in a statement that it has become a leading Israeli tech company by promoting diversity and inclusion not only in its offices in Israel but also internationally. Nvidia worked with nonprofit organizations to proactively recruit underrepresented minorities in the tech industry through diverse recruiting efforts.
At Nvidia Israel, multiple product teams are “working on next-generation technologies in different areas.” The statement further added that the company works with Israel’s technology ecosystem, which “includes nearly 1,000 Israeli startups.” The program provides access to technology, support, marketing assistance, and introductions to venture capitalists.
In May 2023, Nvidia announced plans to build Israel-1, the country’s most powerful supercomputer.
Israel-1 will serve as a testbed for Nvidia’s Ethernet-AI cloud architecture model and co-development with partners, the company said in a statement. It is based on his locally developed Nvidia Spectrum-X networking platform.
The next phase will “expand” the regional reach of Nvidia’s DGX Cloud AI supercomputing service. By November 2023, Israel-1 had completed its initial stages and started research and development operations. This marked a significant milestone in his Nvidia efforts to advance AI infrastructure in Israel.
