One such entrepreneur is Doreen Gardner, owner of Papa’s Brittle, who started her business in 2021. Doreen sees her business as more than just a means of making a living. It’s a way to honor her family’s heritage. She fondly remembers her parents’ tradition of making peanut brittle for the holidays and continues it with “Papa’s Brittle.” Doreen is grateful for Chase’s support in allowing her to share her family’s heritage with others.
Larry Crockett, owner of Lorraine Premium Barbecue, was another entrepreneur featured at the event. He offers gluten-free, non-GMO barbecue sauce in his four flavors. Larry believes events like Block His Party are important to the growth of small businesses in Detroit. He believes they will bring much-needed economic stimulus to the community.
Doreen and Larry are both participants in Chase’s Senior Business Consultant Program, which provides free coaching to entrepreneurs in underserved fields. Chase consultant Jeff Childs emphasizes the importance of small businesses, calling them the backbone of the economy. He takes pride in helping these businesses succeed, knowing that their success contributes to Detroit’s prosperity.
