Despite the 2024 driver market being uncertain, Norris committed his future to McLaren by signing a new multi-year contract with the team in January.

However, former Renault driver Jolyon Palmer has insisted that extending Norris’ McLaren contract could be a wise move given Verstappen’s track record of disciplining his Red Bull team-mates.

“He committed his future to McLaren over the winter, an interesting choice given the current turmoil in the driver market,” Palmer said in a column on the official F1 website.

Time will tell if it’s a wise choice, as both Red Bull and Mercedes have seats available, but given McLaren’s current improvement, there’s no better place than this in the short term. There aren’t many.
