Jeremy Hunt is reported to be holding a summit to attract companies to the London stock market.
According to Sky News, the prime minister has invited executives from some of Britain’s most prominent private technology companies to meet at his private residence, Dorney Wood, on May 16.
This comes amid a shortage of listed stocks on the London Stock Exchange and a large number of listed companies withdrawing from London.
The day-long event will target fintech and biotech entrepreneurs who can take their companies public, sources told Sky News.
Finance Minister Bim Afolami and Rishi Sunak’s business and investment adviser Lord Petitgas are also reported to be in attendance.
The invitation reportedly stated that Mr Hunt would “discuss the UK capital markets and how we can support innovative, high-growth companies like yours to achieve their growth objectives”. ing.
He added: “The UK capital markets play a vital role in our economy, driving growth, creating jobs and encouraging investment.
“The Government is committed to ensuring the UK remains a great place for businesses to grow and is already bringing forward an ambitious program of reforms to improve the UK’s competitiveness.”
According to Sky News, digital banks Monzo Bank and Starling Bank are believed to have been invited.
Ocado made gains last week amid reports the retail technology company was under pressure from investors to move its stock market listing from the capital to New York.
An HMT spokesperson said: “The Prime Minister has been meeting with a number of businesses to hear their thoughts on the UK market and what more the government and regulators can do to support their growth.”
