The Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (CIFT), under the Scientific Heritage and Research Initiative, with funding support from the Ministry of Science and Technology, has launched a program on new millet-based ready-to-eat smart functional foods enriched with fish protein and fish protein. It was started. Lipids for entrepreneurship development in kerala.

The three-year project aims to develop innovative smart, ready-to-eat functional foods that combine the nutritional benefits of millet with the rich protein and fat content of fish. The project will empower local entrepreneurs, strengthen food security and boost the economy of Kerala through the promotion of millet-based entrepreneurship and production of value-added food enriched with fish proteins. The purpose is to contribute to development.

This initiative considers the development of entrepreneurship leveraging the nutritional importance of millet. Earlier this year, CIFT launched a range of millet and fish products, including gluten-free cookies, fishmi sausages, millet-based batter formulations, and millet muffins enriched with collagen peptides.

The effort is being led by scientists J. Bindu, Remya S, Elavarasan K, CO Mohan, P. Viji and Sarika K from CIFT’s seafood processing division. CIFT’s products represent the fusion of innovation and nutrition. Adding fish protein to millet-based foods significantly increases their nutritional value. Because fish is rich in high-quality protein, omega-3 fatty acids, and essential minerals, these foods are especially beneficial for children, pregnant women, and the elderly.

According to a communication from CIFT, the institute on Wednesday conducted a one-day workshop on entrepreneurship focusing on fish and millet-based products. The workshop was attended by entrepreneurs and farmers from Kerala. Practical sessions and product presentations during the workshop included a baking class with his Mr. S. Krishnadas of Hudasta.

CIFT Director George Ninan highlighted the opportunities in the Millet Entrepreneurship sector and encouraged participants to take advantage of the agency’s Agribusiness Incubation Center.
