Arsenal erased their disappointment in the Champions League by defeating Wolves and returning to the top of the Premier League.

The Gunners suffered a potentially season-defining back-to-back defeat when they lost to Aston Villa in last Sunday’s league match. before being eliminated from the Champions League by Bayern Munich. on wednesday.

However, goals from Leandro Trossard and Martin Odegaard at Molineux put them back at the top of the Premier League, one point ahead of Manchester City with a game in hand.

Josep Guardiola’s side will play the FA Cup semi-final on Saturday. arsenal If they play Chelsea on Tuesday, the reigning champions could move four points clear of City by the time they next face Brighton on Thursday.

This will be a huge swing in momentum after what was diagnosed as a terminal defeat against Villa last week. Liverpool now have a three-point lead with two games to play before facing City again.

Mikel Arteta’s side had an air of luck with Trossard’s opening goal and Saturday night’s victory was worth it, even if they had to wait until stoppage time to put the game away.

Although Wolves are suffering from injuries to most of their main attacking players, they fought well and could have had a shocking result if Joao Gomez’s shot in the first half had not hit the post.

Gary O’Neill’s side are currently without a win in six games in all competitions, but are aiming for a top half finish with home fixtures against Bournemouth and Luton coming up.

Arsenal didn’t have to dwell too long on their defeat to Germany in midweek, as they quickly moved into the lead against Molineux.

Trossard was involved from the start, causing trouble on the left, his cross meekly headed straight to Jose Sa, and Belgian tee-up Declan Rice whistled a low shot wide of the target. .

Trossard was found by Ben White at the end of the supply line but missed the kick in the middle of the penalty area.

Although Arsenal had the upper hand, it was Wolves who came closest to taking the lead in the 30th minute.

Gomez took a good shot from Jakub Kiviol on the right flank, drove into the area and fired a powerful shot that David Raya was able to deflect well into the net.

Arsenal overcame the scare and took the lead just before half-time.

Matt Doherty faltered against Gabriel Jesus and the Brazilian hit back at Trossard, whose sliced shot hit the post for his side’s first goal in two and a half games.

Arsenal were able to effectively manage the competition in the second half.

As Wolves were severely lacking in attacking options, midfielder Mario Lemina came on as a striker and the hosts went on the offensive in the final 15 minutes.

But, unsurprisingly, the search for a leveler failed to create anything clear.

And Arsenal, who haven’t conceded a goal in an away Premier League game since January, took the lead with three points after Odegaard scored his second try from an acute angle and stopped the game late in stoppage time.
