Dr. Raman Mahabir, a plastic surgeon in Tucson, Arizona, says the biggest trend in breast surgery right now is more natural-looking breasts. “People no longer want to look augmented. We can now have better conversations with patients about choosing implants that fit well with their bodies.” Dr. Mark Jewell, a plastic surgeon in Eugene, Oregon, agrees that patients are choosing more realistic size options.

In his practice, Dr. Calobrace has witnessed a shift to smaller breasts resulting in implant removal and breast reduction. “Most women would agree that smaller breasts are easier to live with,” says Simona V. Pautler, M.D., a plastic surgeon in McMurray, Pennsylvania. “Small, round, perky breasts get more coverage on social media than big, heavy, sagging breasts. Fashion trends also call for going braless.” Additionally, smaller breasts are better able to withstand gravity. She added that this reduces the number of surgeries needed to correct the tissue stretch. It also reduces the burden on your chest, making it easier to exercise.

“For a more natural look, a lift can be performed without implants,” says Dr. Calobrace. “Alternatively, it can be done alone or in some cases in conjunction with auto-expansion or fat grafting, two trends to watch.”
