MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Police are investigating a spate of robberies at a large office complex in southeast Memphis.

At least seven businesses were damaged between Friday and Monday in the 5800 block of Mount Moriah.

Investigators said the thieves broke in through windows and doors and took laptops, televisions and other electronic devices.

Mike McKinney, who owns Mobile Drug Testing, said he learned his store had been robbed early Saturday morning. He said someone smashed a window with a piece of concrete and took about $3,300 worth of electronic equipment.

“They took two iPad tablets, a 17-inch computer and my work computer, my desktop,” McKinney said. They tried to take away the television but could not. ”

Officers arrived at the complex just before 4 a.m. Saturday and saw a person dressed in black running through the parking lot. They found two backpacks, a desktop computer, and two televisions nearby.

A barber shop was also robbed early Monday morning. The owner was away at the time of the accident, but said it was all caught on camera.

McKinney said he has been on the Mount Moriah site for three years and this is the first time something like this has happened there.

“It’s frustrating because you have to meet insurance deductibles, take photos, and get it notarized. It’s a total headache and you lose business in the process.”

McKinney said he plans to beef up security with more cameras and lighting.

Police have not released surveillance video. If you know anything about the break-in, call CrimeStoppers at (901)528-CASH.
