The Industrial Systems Technology Instructor is responsible for providing high-quality, industry-standard instruction on industrial systems topics using seated, online, and lab courses. Instructors provide innovative and engaging instruction while ensuring course topics and examples evolve as the field advances. This position will network with local industry through the Program Chair in Industrial Systems Technology and collaborate on a variety of projects. Instructors will assist departments in collaborating across curriculum and continuing education departments to deliver courses that meet the needs of local industry partners and students.

qualification

· Demonstrated competency in the field of education with an associate’s degree from a regionally accredited institution

・At least 3 years of related industry experience

– Experience in industrial controls, machining, electrical, mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, welding fundamentals required

・Ability to read industrial circuit diagrams

· Experience troubleshooting industrial equipment specific to industrial production environments is required

· Experience teaching at a community college or university, using educational technology, or teaching online courses preferred.

· Licensing and/or certification requirements specific to the education sector and external management bodies shall be recorded in the Human Resources Department.

Working conditions

· General classroom or online education environment

・To withstand frequent temperature changes, frequent leaving for 6-8 hours per day

・Frequently stooping, stooping, reaching, crouching, kneeling, pushing, and pulling

· Lifting and/or carrying items up to 50 pounds is unlikely.without assistance

・There is frequent movement between buildings on campus, and very little movement to other campuses.

– Frequently listen and talk to students and other faculty members.

– Rarely use the phone, computer, keyboard, or mouse while sitting at a desk or workstation

· Exposure to fire or chemical hazards

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties of an Industrial Systems Technology Instructor include, but are not limited to:

· Ensure blended curriculum/continuing education course options for all courses within Industrial Systems Technology.

– Incorporate machining and mechanical engineering courses and tracks as required to produce high quality graduates and strive to modernize equipment in line with industry standards.

· Instruct students in experimental classes. Train and supervise student activities in a laboratory environment.Support students’ research projects and related activities

· Ensure that other resources such as equipment, materials, and teaching materials are available to the class.

· Play a leading role in the maintenance of laboratory equipment.Perform minor maintenance as needed

・Arranging equipment repairs in case of machine breakdown

Faculty members are expected to demonstrate and maintain competency in each of the following areas during their employment with the College:

Mastering the subject matter

・Demonstrate thorough and accurate knowledge in the field of education

・Demonstrate the ability to interpret and evaluate theories in the field or discipline

· Connect the subject with related fields

· Stay current on subject matter through professional development. Involvement in professional organizations.Participating in professional meetings, conferences, and/or workshops

· Learn and use technology as appropriate to enhance teaching and the educational experience.

Teaching results

· Teach a course load appropriate to the field of education.

· Plan and organize instruction in ways that maximize student learning.

· Adopt appropriate teaching and learning strategies to convey the subject matter to students.

· Modify instructional methods and strategies as necessary to meet the diverse needs of students.

· Utilize available educational technologies, i.e., the Internet, interactive technologies, etc., as appropriate.

・Promote the development of communication skills and higher-order thinking skills through appropriate assignments for students.

・Contribute to the selection and development of teaching materials according to the purpose of the course

Assessment of student learning

· Set and follow meaningful learning goals

· Develop and describe methods for equitably measuring student progress toward course objectives.

· Assess student performance fairly and consistently and return student work promptly to facilitate maximum learning

· Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit final grades each semester according to set deadlines

· Demonstrate sensitivity to student needs and situations.

Support for university policies and procedures

· Teach assigned classes in a multi-campus environment.

· Teach credit or non-credit courses in the field of education, as appropriate.

· Post and maintain regular office hours for colleagues and students to receive advice and consultation.

・Act as a student’s supervisor

· Prepare, distribute, and submit syllabi and approved course outlines for all assigned sections in accordance with program and department policies.

・Confidentiality of student information

・Substitute other instructors in the field in case of absence.

· Manage university facilities, materials, and resources.

· Adhere to the responsibilities outlined in the Lenoir Community College Catalog, Faculty Handbook, Distance Learning Handbook, Policy Manual, and Procedure Manual.

Participation in university, department, department, and program activities

· Serve on assigned university committees.

– Participate in meetings and events as necessary.

· Respond to requests for information in a timely manner.

· Support both part-time and full-time colleagues

· Contribute to the program, faculty, or department curriculum development process.

・Participate in the graduation ceremony

Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills in communicating with students, colleagues, staff, and administrators, both individually and as a team member.

Contributing to the growth and strengthening of the university’s mission and programs

· Stay informed of the university’s goals, mission, and long-term plans.

· Contribute to the planning and development process through appropriate mechanisms and channels.

· Participate in professional activities that contribute to the educational goals of the College and its members.

· Carry out professional responsibilities in accordance with the relevant goals, mission, and plans of the College.

· Participate in the marketing, recruitment, and retention of students, faculty, and staff.

· Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Program chair/instructor responsibilities also include:

-Coordinate and supervise curriculum development by designing, planning, organizing, and evaluating assigned learning programs.

· Oversee and participate in the evaluation of faculty within the program area.

・Coordinate course planning, implementation, and evaluation

· Develop, implement, and evaluate department-specific policies with the dean.

· Serve as a resource for student solutions.
