New Innovation Matchmaking Program Supports Collaborative Entrepreneurship – Daily News

Are you a faculty member looking to commercialize health and technology innovations?

McMaster’s Innovation Matchmaking Program, hosted in partnership with Hamilton Health Sciences and St. Joe’s Hamilton Research Institute and with funding from the College of Engineering, connects research teams across campus and affiliated hospitals. and provide $75,000 worth of research funding. Reserve funds that can be used to build investable ventures.

The program is designed to foster interdisciplinary innovation, help McMaster researchers generate valuable intellectual property, and support the creation of investable start-up companies. said Leila Soleimani, vice president of research.

“Collaboration is key to driving ideas and innovation and creating impactful companies. This program provides our entrepreneurs with the opportunity to build strong interdisciplinary connections and combine their strengths. , giving us the opportunity to tackle global health challenges with cutting-edge technological solutions,” she says.

Dean of Engineering Heather Sheardown said this initiative closely aligns with the department’s mission to empower agile, globally-minded engineering leaders who work together to create a brighter future. He said there was.

“The program helps participants navigate their entrepreneurial journey, provides mentorship opportunities and access to support from McMaster business development experts, and also has the ability to foster long-term collaborations. ” she says.

The Innovation Matchmaking Program will begin recruiting in strategic focus areas. The first round of the program, launched this spring, will focus on health and AI, digital health, health and materials, and medical devices.

To receive full funding for preparation, successful applicants must submit a proposal to a formal commercialization grant program within six months of the project start date.

Those interested in applying to the program can participate in matching sessions to form teams and propose projects with potential for commercialization. Existing interdisciplinary research teams can also apply to the program.

This program is one of several initiatives of the McMaster Entrepreneurial Academy, led by the Office of the Vice President, Research, Office of the Provost and Vice President, Academic Division, and the McMaster Industry Liaison Office. The academy is designed to enhance McMaster’s support for entrepreneurs through additional time and resources, increased interdisciplinary collaboration, mentorship opportunities, and access to lab space.

“Each initiative aims to inspire and support faculty and researchers – both established and aspiring entrepreneurs – as they transform their research breakthroughs into high-value products and services. The idea is to reward them,” Soleimani said.
