Nominations are now being accepted for this year’s DMU Made Entrepreneurship Awards.
Now in its fourth year, the award recognizes talented DMU students and alumni who have launched successful businesses, worked as freelance ventures, or taken on side hustles while in school.
Students and alumni can nominate themselves or a friend, while employees can only nominate on behalf of a person.
Six categories are accepting nominations.
– Creative Industry Award – rRecognizes an entrepreneurial student or graduate who has achieved excellence in freelancing, self-employment, or starting a business in the fields of music, film, photography, animation, graphic design, and performing arts.
– Health and Welfare Award – rRecognizes entrepreneurial students or graduates who have achieved excellence in freelancing, self-employment, or starting a business in the health and human services sector.
– Global Entrepreneurship Champion – rLed by the DMU Made team, we recognize students who have achieved excellence and positively influenced others during or after their DMU Global trip.
– Sustainability Award – rRecognizes students whose entrepreneurial activities contribute to or promote sustainability/SDGS.
– Entrepreneurship in Technology – rRecognizes an entrepreneurial student or graduate who has achieved excellence in freelancing, self-employment, or starting a business, especially related to technology or new product design.
– Entrepreneurship in Fashion – rRecognizes entrepreneurial students or graduates who have demonstrated excellence in freelancing, self-employment, or starting a fashion-related business.
Additionally, awards will be presented for this year’s Entrepreneurial Students and Entrepreneurial Alumni.
Nominations can be made via the DMU Made website and close at midnight on Wednesday, July 31st.
Winners will be announced at a special event on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 at 2:00 pm at The Venue. The event follows the university’s annual Entrepreneurship Day event, which will be held on the morning of the awards.
The 2023 awards, held in partnership with the Sir Thomas White Loan Charity, which provides business loans to local start-ups, will feature 10 awards including Best Fashion Start-up and Best Social Enterprise. Awarded.
The night culminated with last year’s Student Entrepreneur of the Year award ceremony, which went to Economics and Political Science student Melvin Reilly and former Enactus Chairman Komal Shahzadi, as well as Pitch to Win.・It was also the announcement of the winner of the contest.
Last year’s ceremony also featured special guests Radio 1’s Callum Leslie, who presents the Breakfast Show with Greg James, and Britain’s Got Talent winner Michael Auger.
The pair will return to Leicester this spring to take part in the DMU Made Creative Industries programme. The program is a series of free, hands-on workshops where students and graduates can learn more about self-employment and freelancing in music, podcasting, presentation, graphic design, and performance.
