Perth, Australia, April 11, 2024–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Rio Tinto continues to increase its contribution to supporting local jobs and the economy in Western Australia, with the company increasing its spending on local businesses near its operations by almost 40% year-on-year. increasing by a percentage.

In 2023, Rio Tinto worked with more than 2,400 suppliers in Western Australia, spending A$8.8 billion across the state. Of this, A$875 million was spent supporting local businesses near our operations.

The company also increased spending with Indigenous businesses in Western Australia by 35% year on year in 2023, spending a record A$593 million.

In the Pilbara, Rio Tinto spent A$835 million with local businesses, of which A$499 million was spent with Indigenous businesses based in the Pilbara. More than 80% of these businesses were traditional owner businesses.

Rio Tinto has increased annual spend with suppliers in Western Australia by 78% since 2018 as part of our ongoing commitment to supporting the communities in which we operate.

Rio Tinto celebrated the contributions of its suppliers last night at its second annual Supplier Recognition Awards. This award recognizes the outstanding performance of the company’s valued suppliers and their contributions to the company and the community.

Suppliers or companies that have worked with Rio Tinto across its WA operations can be nominated for outstanding performance and leadership across six categories. This year, he was selected from 18 finalists out of approximately 200 supplier nominations.

Two major awards were also presented on the night: WA Supplier of the Year and Chief Executive Officer Award.

Prime Minister Roger Cook attended the event and presented the WA Supplier of the Year award to Monadelphos, while Rio Tinto Iron Ore CEO Simon Trott presented the Chief Executive Award to Wesfarmers. did.
