Morocco’s Minister of Industry and Trade Riyad Mezour said the government is in talks to attract more battery manufacturers.
Mezor told Reuters the company is adapting the growing automotive sector to increased demand for electric vehicles.
He had previously targeted annual production of 1 million cars by 2027 at the latest, the verdict reported.
Africa is tipped to be the next big export market for batteries, with Morocco expected to account for 80% of battery demand by 2035, according to GlobalData analysis. The highest battery demand will come from the automotive sector.
Morocco is already home to Stellantis and Renault.
