Often the best way to help others is to enable them to help themselves. This is the mission of a special organization that helps unemployed mothers and underprivileged people to start businesses and realize their life dreams. We can all have a role in writing their success stories.
South Africa (July 7, 2024) — For many in our country who are disadvantaged and have limited opportunities, the dream of entrepreneurship is a lifeline dream.
Unlike fairy tale dreams, it is not a genie’s lamp that makes these dreams come true but support, and the best support for such a risky dream – a lifeline dream – is support that helps you learn exactly how to help yourself as a successful, educated entrepreneur.
Focusing on this issue and the huge need in our country to help more people empower themselves and their families by becoming business savvy women bosses in a sustainable way is Taking Care of Business (TCB).
Their chronicles of struggle and success stories are as heartwarming as they are inspiring, reminding us that sometimes we just need a little fairy guidance to make magic happen in real life.
TCB is building a foundation for success through a variety of programs, including its Remake and Repair Program, which provides women with supplies (such as electronics and quality clothing) and entrepreneurial training to transform their lives.
While their work is talked about throughout the year, Nelson Mandela Day (18 July) provides an opportunity for people to get involved and help help others achieve their dreams – but you don’t have to wait for Madiba Day to get involved.
How to be a hero to dreamers
- They hold fundraisers to collect resources to help those less fortunate run their own businesses with good condition clothing, sewing machines, small appliances, etc. Chapters can be found here.
- Donate to their entrepreneurial journey, contribute to their remake and repair programs, or educational courses (including computer skills training for interns and graduates who need extra help).
- Please spread the word about TCB’s work to those who could benefit from all they have to offer and who could greatly support their efforts.
