Summer Shopping

Discover delicious food, makers, musicians, art and more at local pop-up stores across Cleveland and its east and west sides. This is the place to shop this summer.

BAYarts Thursday Market

Bay Village’s Visual and Cultural Arts Center is already popular for its productions, events and arts festivals, and now it’s adding a backyard farmers market to the list. Every Thursday from 4-7 p.m., June 13 through September 12, you’ll find farmers market staples like local produce, baked goods, pierogi and artwork created by local artists. The dog-friendly market will also feature a variety of food trucks and a stage with live bands. 28795 Lake Road, Bay Village, bayarts.net

Chagrin Falls Farmers Market
You’ve probably shopped on Chagrin Falls’ Main Street before, but never like this. Every Sunday from June 2 through October 2, one of six North Union Farmers Markets will open up on the famed boutique-lined street from 9 a.m. to noon. Tuck into some bison raised at Coyote Run Ranch in Columbiana, Ohio, or savor a classic glazed doughnut from Big Mouth Doughnut Company in Rocky River. “We’re a certified producer-only farmers market, which means our staff is trained to visit participating farmers,” says Emma Visnick, communications & marketing director for North Union Farmers Market, which also accepts SNAP benefits. The team certifies vendors as producers of the food and products themselves. N. Main & N. Franklin Streets, Chagrin Falls, northunionfarmersmarket.org

Shaldon Family Market
On the edge of Ohio’s countryside, the historic square of this quaint Eastside village is the perfect place for a pop-up food shop. Every Saturday from 10am to 2pm, May 4 through Aug. 24, you’ll find produce from Burton Floral & Garden, jalapeño pineapple jelly from Creative Hippie, and snacks from European picnic food and treat truck Magnia Dolce, of course. But you know what? The star of this shopping event is Geauga County maple syrup. Special events like Old Glory Day on July 4 and the Arts Festival on Aug. 8 also feature kids’ activities, giveaways, a parade and more. 100 Short Court St., Chardon, chardonsquareassociation.org

Cleveland Clinic Main Campus Market
With healthcare workers’ irregular schedules, it’s hard to keep the fridge full and healthy – and so are patients and their families. Luckily, since 1995, the Farmers Market at Crile Mall has been offering fresh produce from more than 40 vendors every Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Visitors can enjoy lunch specials like grilled steaks and burgers from Edwins Restaurant & Leadership Institute, free health screenings and performances by musicians like Ray Flanagan. Carnegie Ave. & E. 100th St., Cleveland, northunionfarmersmarket.org

Coit Road Farmers Market
The area’s oldest farmers market, founded in 1932, still stands in a red barn in East Cleveland. The event runs year-round on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and mixes a flea market atmosphere with arts and crafts and second-hand goods. But the nonprofit’s fresh produce is also a lifeline for neighborhood residents hungry for healthy food options. “We have a farm on site. We do a lot of urban agriculture,” says Kevin Schering, vice president and market manager of the East Cleveland Farmers Market Preservation Society, an all-volunteer organization with a mission to bring whole foods to the masses. 15000 Woodworth Road, East Cleveland, coitmarket.org

Crocker Park Market
Local growers and artisans will be gathering at the Westlake Lifestyle Center every Saturday from April 6 through December 2 from 9am to 1pm. Vendors range from plant grower Flows and Grows, plant-based cookie dough maker Whoa Dough, microgreen-focused Tyler’s Farm and brands like Truly Organic Skin & Body Care. You’ll also find fresh produce, meat, dairy and baked goods. Corner of Crocker and Detroit Roads, Westlake, northunionfarmersmarket.org

Cuyahoga Valley Farmers Market
With live music and interesting products, this market has a slightly funky vibe. Since 2004, this producer-only collection of 70 vendors has been offering unique foodie options every Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon, including handmade popsicles from NEO Pop, garlic dill pickles from Langs Classics and handmade malty bagels from Wootown Bagels. Its location inside Cuyahoga Valley National Park makes it a great place for hiking. 4040 Riverview Road, Peninsula, cuyahogavalleyfarmersmarket.org

Medina County Farmers Market
Main Street Medina’s 200-plus year-old downtown square is the perfect place for a pop-up shopping experience. Every Saturday from May 4 through Oct. 26, the city will close Granger Road at 9 a.m. to host more than 25 vendors, including Hola Island Provisions, Ohio City Pasta and Gray House Pies. Live music from artists like acoustic balladeer Tom Quinn and plenty of kids’ events and activities will get the party going from morning to night. 3939 Granger Road, Medina, farmersmarketofmedina.com

Frostville Museum Farmers Market
Now in its 14th year on the beautiful grounds of Frostville Museum, a living history of 19th-century Ohio in Cleveland Metroparks’ Rocky River Reserve, the market runs every Saturday from May through October from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. “Fees from vendors go toward the preservation and restoration of the museum’s historic buildings and grounds,” says Angie Obish, market manager and bakery vendor. 24101 Cedar Point Road, North Olmsted, frostvillefarmersmarket.com

Cam’s Corners Farmers Market
On Sundays, June 16 through October 13, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the bustling market returns for its 18th season in Cleveland’s iconic west side neighborhood. “We’re a producers-only market, meaning all the produce you see at the market is grown locally by the farmers who operate the stands,” says Market Manager Rebekah Ferro. This season, the market also brings back live cooking demonstrations from local chefs and vendors, plus live music most weeks. In partnership with Produce Perks Midwest, shoppers can use EBT/Snap to purchase produce at the market, and up to $25 will be matched. W. 168th & Albers Ave., Cleveland, westparkkamms.org/market

Lakewood Farmers Market
LEAF Community Garden is a collection of 160 resident gardeners who tend crops and other plants. Every Thursday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., starting June 20 through late October, local growers and other area producers, artisans and crafters will sell their goods and harvests in front of the Lakewood Public Library, where live music will liven up the downtown vibe. The market also offers a CSA pickup program during City Fresh, where people receive seasonal, weekly farm-fresh foods. Lakewood Library, 15425 Detroit Ave., Lakewood, leafcommunity.org/farmersmarket

Legacy Village Market
The upscale shopping center will be getting a little crunchier and more local from 9 a.m. to noon on Sundays, June 9 through Sept. 22. Enjoy the tunes of Brazilian jazz guitarist Moises Borges while shopping for fresh produce, meat, dairy, baked goods and more outside LL Bean. “Not only do we certify the farms, we also do food tastings,” says Emma Visnjic, director of communications & marketing. “We stand by our quality promise. When you’re buying a product, there’s a good chance you’re talking to the maker who made it or the farmer who grew it.” 25389 Cedar Road, Lyndhurst, northunionfarmersmarket.org

Old Brooklyn Farmers Market
Now in its 11th year, the market has shifted to Thursdays from 5 to 8 p.m., closing off part of Stamford Avenue. Now, the street market keeps the party going with Mike Knight, natural dye-making classes from Rust Belt Fibershed and a beer garden from Schnitz Ale Brewery. Still, three of the four vendors sell fresh produce from within five miles. “Our tagline is food that lasts, art that inspires and a community to share it with,” says manager Andrew Holmes. 4274 Pearl Road, Cleveland, oldbrooklyn.com/market

Shaker Square Market
Local producers will flock to the historic brick downtown every Saturday from April 6 through Dec. 21 from 8 a.m. to noon. “Shaker Square is one of the oldest farmers markets in the region, and we’ll be celebrating our 30th anniversary next year,” says Communications & Marketing Director Emma Visnick. Running east-west along Shaker Boulevard, this East Side staple features 100 vendors, including Jeff’s Candy Bar, Shaker Heights-based Lizzy’s Bakery and Tyler’s Farm. 13209 Shaker Square, Cleveland, northunionfarmersmarket.org

Tremont Farmers Market
Tremont is known for its great bars and restaurants, but every Tuesday from May 21 to October 8, Lincoln Park is the perfect place to enjoy dining, shopping and great live music from 4 to 7 p.m. The market, organized by Tremont West Development Corporation, will feature about 25 to 30 booths, including Fuego Fermentations, Wild Ohio Gardens, Henry’s Creamery, psychedelic artist Guice Mann and K-9 Kreations. Relax your body and mind with a class at Bliss For EveryBody Yoga Studio. 2609 West 14th St., Cleveland, experiencetremont.com

University Hospital Market
A world-class medical and educational campus needs good dining options. Luckily, every Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., June 6 through October 18, the North Union Farmers Market provides caregivers, patients and community members with food from Cleveland-based food trucks, area farms and locally-sourced produce. Pick up some Eastern European dumplings from Pierogi Market or cat grass from Great Lakes Sprouts. 2074 Adelbert Road, Cleveland, northunionfarmersmarket.org
