Shaare Zedek Medical Center, through its innovation subsidiary Madait and investment company Arieli Capital, has launched the first cohort of its innovation hub “SHAAR”. The 10 biomedical companies featured raised a total of $25 million.
SHAAR is located within the Shaare Zedek Medical Center, giving startups close proximity to doctors, data, and medical departments. SHAAR’s first cohort selected 10 startups from seed to A stage. The program, which concluded last week, was packed with 440 intensive business meetings and opportunities for collaboration on clinical trial partnerships and funding opportunities.
The selected companies were working on a variety of medical problems, including lung cancer, brain stents, and post-surgical infections. The program’s comprehensive framework will closely support graduates over the coming months by providing business and clinical support and mentoring, shared workspace within the medical center and potential investment opportunities.
The program concluded with a final expo and pitch event held in the old Shaare Zedek building in midtown Jerusalem, bringing together a diverse group of investors, medical professionals, and government officials.
Renana Ofan, CEO of Shaare Zedek Scientific (Madait) said: “Our goal is to help entrepreneurs and startups by providing access to resources to develop their technology, including medical data, samples, pilot studies, clinical trials, and medical guidance. We are excited about the opportunity to foster advanced and groundbreaking startups in smart medicine to help patients and improve healthcare.”
Haviv, Partner and Head of Innovation at Arieli Capital: “Innovation is the tool that makes humanity special, and each of the startups that participated in the program represents breakthrough innovation in their field. Over the past week, each of the 10 startups participating in the first batch of the SHAAR Innovation Program has announced that, thanks to technology and healthcare, each of the 10 startups will change or save lives around the world. I have attended hundreds of business meetings with one goal in mind: the progress we are witnessing today.”
