WILSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — Music classes are set to get exciting this fall at Wilson County Middle School.
The district is using the grant money to make a significant investment of over $190,000 into the band program, which will immediately be used to purchase nearly 100 new instruments.
“Having schools be able to offer these programs reduces the barriers for kids to participate,” said Wilson County School Board Member Carrie Pfeiffer. “The relationships kids build with each other and with the directors in these arts programs are really important. Research shows that the more engaged kids are in school and in their extracurricular activities, the more successful they are academically.”
Each of Wilson County’s seven middle schools has requested the instruments they need. Pfeffer said each school You will receive your requested instruments prior to the start of the 2024-2025 school year.
This isn’t Wilson County Schools’ only new investment in the arts: Pfeiffer added that the district is also looking for an arts coordinator, someone who can help students network and make connections in the arts community.
