(North Country), N.Y. (WWTI) — Due to severe weather forecast for today, July 10th, the Watertown and Hammond Wednesday Farmers Markets will be canceled.

According to a Facebook post, the decision was made for the safety of vendors and customers. The Watertown Wednesday Farmers Market will reopen next week on July 17.

Hammond also canceled the Farmers Market, saying via Facebook, “For the first time ever ~ Market is cancelled.”

Flash flooding from excessive rainfall is possible in Jefferson and Lewis counties from noon today through this evening. Flash flooding is possible in St. Lawrence County until 8 AM Thursday. Stormwater runoff may cause flooding in rivers, streams, creeks, and other low-lying flood-prone areas. Flooding may occur in areas with poor drainage, urban areas, storm drains, and ditches that may be clogged with debris.

Residents are urged to monitor the upcoming forecast and be prepared to take action if a flood warning is issued.

  • Move to a higher location.
  • Stay updated.
  • Stay away from water.

Additional information about what to do when a flood warning is issued can be found on the National Weather Service website and the Safewise website.
