Will Oregon Ducks Football be able to secure the contracts of three more five-star defensive prospects in the 2025 freshman recruiting class? The Ducks are expected to land five-star safety Jonah Williams, five-star safety Trey McNutt and are also a finalist for five-star cornerback DJ Pickett.

Those are three of the best defensive players in the country. Oregon head coach Dan Lanning’s recruiting efforts have only intensified as the school’s 2025 class has rocketed into the top five in the country. With the additions of five-star wide receiver DaCorine Moore and five-star cornerback Dorian Belew, Oregon is now trailing only the Ohio State Buckeyes, Alabama Crimson Tide and Georgia Bulldogs.

The Ducks just landed a prospect in Williams, the No. 1 safety and No. 7 overall player in the class of 2025. Williams is a unique two-sport athlete who is committed to the Texas A&M Aggies but also wants to play baseball in college. The Aggies coach left for Texas last week, and the Ducks have demonstrated they can successfully support a two-sport athlete in Bryce Bettcher.

In an interview in June, Botscher, the Oregon linebacker, smiled as he described Running as “psycho in his own way.”

“Lanning is a great coach and he cares about his players,” Bettcher told Oregon SI’s Bri Amaranth. “He has a – I don’t want to say psycho, but he has a psychotic side to him, and that’s what makes him so much fun to be around.”

“When he coaches, there’s always that look in his eyes that he’s ready to do anything,” Bettcher said.

According to the latest projections from the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, McNutt is projected to attend Big Ten powerhouse Oregon with a respectable 74.7% chance of doing so. McNutt is a product of Ohio State, and the Ducks are primarily competing with the Ohio State Buckeyes for his enrollment.

Pickett, a five-star 2025 cornerback from Zephyrhills, Fla., eliminated Georgia and narrowed his list to Oregon, Miami and Louisiana State. Pickett recently took official visits to Oregon on June 21, Miami on June 14 and Louisiana State on May 31. Pickett is scheduled to make his college decision on July 17.
