The Provo Farmers Market is a staple of Provo’s local business scene.
The market is open every Saturday from 9am to 2pm at Pioneer Park from June through late October. Shoppers from all over Utah County visit the market to browse, buy and sell fun and often handmade products.
This market has given rise to well-regarded businesses such as Cupbop and Waffle Love.
Many dealers, like Linda Chadburn, have turned their hobby into a thriving business.
“We got our homemade caramels today. We have six flavors: original, pecan, pretzel, marshmallow, walnut and salted mixed nuts, all handmade within the last two weeks,” Chadburn said.
This is Chadburn’s first year as a vendor at the market. She worked in public education for 32 years and often made the caramel for her coworkers.
“When I retired, a lot of the guys said to me, ‘Hey, how do we get your caramel? Why don’t you sell it?’ So I thought I’d give it a go,” Chadburn said.
Chadburn is just one example of a growing number of vendors.
The market is currently hosting more farmers and vendors than ever before, up about 20% from last year.
“I love the entrepreneurial aspect of it, because each vendor has a different dream and what that dream can mean can be so varied,” said Matt Taylor, the market’s executive director.
The market is a fusion of cultures, with music and merchandise as diverse as its customers.
We also provide our customers with a number of healthy foods, including honey, eggs and produce.
“If you’re looking to improve your diet, we have the most locally grown, freshest produce in the state,” Taylor said.
Taylor encouraged people to visit the market for themselves and see what products are available.
“As long as Utah can stay local, this is a local place,” Taylor said.
