NASA Astronaut Captures Moonrise from a Unique Perspective: “Dancing in the Moonlight” | Trending

A stunning photo of a moonrise captured from space has people in awe. The photo, taken by NASA astronaut Matthew Dominick from the International Space Station, shows the moon just above the horizon.

“NASA astronaut Matthew Dominic has been aboard the International Space Station for approximately four months. He is the commander of NASA’s SpaceX Crew 8 mission, which launched to the ISS on March 3, 2024, along with Roscosmos cosmonauts Alexander Grebenkhin, Michael Barratt and Janet Epps,” NASA wrote.

Talking about the scene, Dominic said, “A sliver of the moon rises from the noctilucent clouds, seemingly scanning the horizon for the impending sunrise.”

NASA described the image as “a crescent moon drifting above Earth’s atmosphere, resembling the blue waters of the ocean. Orange and black layers are visible beneath a horizontal blue band across the center of the image. The crescent moon is white, standing out against the darkness of space.”

Matthew Dominick was selected by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to join the astronaut candidate class of 2017. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of San Diego and a Master of Science in Systems Engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School.
