(CBS Detroit) – How did Rachel Stewart end up as CEO of Gardner White after a career in the clean energy sector that included stints at the U.S. Department of Energy and the Clinton Foundation? She discusses her unique career path in a compelling episode of CBS Detroit’s “Michigan Matters” this Sunday.
Gardner White is a 112-year-old family-owned furniture retailer and Stewart is the first woman to serve as CEO of the company.
She is also actively involved in the community, belonging to organizations such as The Parade Company, Business Leaders for Michigan and the Economic Club of Detroit.

The focus then shifts to supporting entrepreneurs, with Urban Entrepreneurship Initiative founder David Tarver and TechTown’s Ned Staebler discussing efforts to support entrepreneurs in Detroit and other cities.
Tarver, a Flint native, founded and later sold Telecom Analysis Systems Inc. He created the Urban Entrepreneurship Initiative to help entrepreneurs.
Stabler runs TechTown, Wayne State University’s entrepreneurship hub, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.
Stabler will talk about the impact of TechTown and how it has helped startups and entrepreneurs throughout the region.
Both leaders will speak about the importance of entrepreneurship in urban communities.
