Destrehan (Louisiana) defensive back Jahseh Thomas is expected to be named Saturday and is close to a decision.
The Louisiana native committed on July 13 after considering five schools: LSU, Houston, Ole Miss, Texas Tech and Colorado.
LSU wasted no time in impressing Thomas, offering him in June after he dominated the testing department at LSU’s elite camp.
The 2025 defensive back has been on the radar of LSU safeties coach Jake Olsen after making a couple of unofficial trips to Baton Rouge in recent months.
Heading into the summer, the expectation was that offers would come soon if Thomas showed up during training camp in Death Valley.
Then, after impressing again on the camp circuit, the Bayou State star earned an offer from his dream school as the Tigers extended his scholarship.
“Jace Thomas was definitely someone that got a lot of attention from the LSU staff,” On3 national scout Cody Bellaire said on the Bengal Tiger Podcast. “I’ll say this guy got an offer right after he tested. He literally ran 40 yards, went to the warmup area and waited for practice to start, and the personnel staff gave Brian Kelly his numbers. Kelly called Jace over and that was it. Offer. Decision. Before he even practiced. Of course, one of the big questions they had about him before he got the job was his top-tier speed, overall athleticism and size.”
The 6-foot-1, 175-pound player reportedly ran the 40-yard dash in the 4.4-second range twice, along with an impressive all-around performance during drill work.
He has skyrocketed up the recruiting rankings after a dominant junior season and is now a four-star prospect with great potential heading into his senior season.
LSU has developed an efficient pipeline from Destrehan to Baton Rouge for years, but the most recent success story comes from Justin Jefferson.
Fresh off signing the richest contract for a non-quarterback in NFL history, Jefferson has taken the Death Valley area by storm during his time in the purple and gold.
Now, the Tigers are pursuing promising players from programs right around the corner.
On3 recruiting experts Shea Dixon and Billy Embody predict LSU will win by acquiring Thomas.
And on Thursday, with the decision coming 48 hours later, LSU Country recorded a prediction in favor of the Tigers, with all signs pointing to LSU coming out victorious. dedication from Thomas on Saturday afternoon.
The exciting defensive back with NFL pedigree has quickly risen to prominence at one of the top programs in the state of Louisiana.
The Tigers currently have zero defensive back contracts in this recruiting cycle and will be looking to land a No. 1 pick from one of Boots’ top defensive backs on Saturday.
Thomas is scheduled to announce his college decision at 1 p.m., raising the profile of one of the top Louisiana prospects Kelly and the team have in the spotlight in the 2025 cycle.
