The city of Chula Vista has invested heavily in teaching tech skills to its young residents through the introduction of high-tech middle and high schools. Not surprisingly, the city is becoming a vibrant tech hub, with many students learning engineering and coding first-hand at these schools, without textbooks.

This hands-on experience has taught them many tech industry best practices at a young age, and some of our graduates have already gone on to have a foothold in the exciting startup world. Here, we profile five of the city’s best startups and how they’re contributing to the tech industry statewide.

  1. WCA Job Opportunities

With the growing demand for security solutions such as those featured in our in-depth reviews of the best antivirus software products, tech expert Krishi Chowdhary highlights antivirus software that offers real-time protection to instantly detect potential threats like ransomware, phishing attacks, adware, etc. A few decades ago, advanced services like online reviews of antivirus software might have been unknown.

But as companies like WCA Job Post prove, if you have the skills, Chula Vista startups can help you find the perfect job that matches your skill set. WCA Job Post, one of the best Chula Vista-based tech startups, has created an online platform where independent contractors can search for work and companies can post these opportunities. Founded in 2018, the company offers job seekers a user-friendly interface to find gigs, freelance work, and contract-based employment.

The company offers jobs in a variety of fields. For example, users can search for freelance software development jobs at digital agencies, almost any project that matches their skills, local business websites, and online platforms. The platform also lets users search for jobs outside of the tech sector, landing jobs in home repairs, plumbing, and landscaping.

  • Three Rivers Provider Network

Chula Vista is also home to Three Rivers Provider Network (TRPN), a healthcare management startup that uses a patient engagement platform to improve and simplify processes in the healthcare sector. The TRPN platform empowers patients to proactively manage their health with features such as medication reminders, personalized health tips, and appointment scheduling.

TRPN platforms also promote transparency in the healthcare sector by giving patients access to information. For example, these platforms have helped many people find specialty or primary care providers for the services they need. By expanding options, TRPN has helped countless patients make informed decisions about their health. Another element where the TRPN platform helps patients is with healthcare cost forecasting, which is crucial in helping patients control how much they spend on care.

TRPN partners with other health tech startups to offer a range of services to patients. These partnerships have enabled TRPN to integrate solutions such as AI-powered diagnostics and wearables into its platform.

The health tech startup offers managed services to provider networks that not only help patients with the medical process but also connect healthcare professionals with the people who need it most.

These factors have led TRPN to make a difference in Chula Vista and beyond: The company has balanced fair pricing for providers while preserving patient affordability, and implemented innovative technologies like data analytics to streamline medical procedures and telehealth solutions.

Another longtime standout in Chula Vista’s technology industry is Rohr, Inc. The company has revolutionized the aerospace industry in California and beyond with the critical parts it manufactures and designs, including thrust reversers, nacelles and mounting pylons that are essential to improving aircraft safety, performance and aerodynamics.

Rohr’s consistent production of high-quality aerostructures also contributes to improvements in commercial and military aircraft. For example, Rohr parts improve the performance and military readiness of military aircraft such as transport planes, fighter jets and reconnaissance drones.

The company’s expertise in manufacturing and designing civil and military aircraft parts has led it to partner with many aircraft manufacturers, making it an expert in ensuring that its solutions work reliably in critical aircraft systems such as electronic avionics systems and engines.

Rohr designs have greatly improved aviation safety, including thrust reversers that allow planes to land safely. Rohr thrust reversers allow the engine thrust to be directed forward, making braking easier on short runways.

Maxell Pro AV is another prominent Chula Vista technology startup that specializes in audiovisual solutions that enhance the visual experience across many industries. The technology company manufactures laser projectors with advantages such as enhanced resolution and brightness settings. The company has sought to improve the visual quality of its projectors by producing sharper images and higher lumens, making displays and presentations clearer regardless of lighting conditions.

Maxell Pro AV’s use of innovative color processing algorithms enables its laser projectors to produce realistic and vibrant images with improved color accuracy, while the wireless connectivity options built into the company’s projectors allow devices to connect to the projector without cables, introducing screen sharing capabilities and facilitating efficient collaboration.

Projectors manufactured by Maxell Pro AV have smart features such as automatic edge blending, geometric adjustment, and keystone correction that simplify the setup process and improve the user experience. In addition to these features, the new models manufactured by this startup do not consume as much power even with heavy use. This allows these projectors to last longer and minimize their impact on the environment. The long lifespan and energy efficiency of Maxell Pro AV projectors have led to their use in many locations, including corporate boardrooms, educational institutions, and entertainment venues.

ProSciento, a clinical research startup founded in San Diego in 2003, has a specialized early-stage center in Chula Vista. The startup is primarily focused on researching treatments for metabolic diseases such as obesity, nonalcoholic steatohepatitis and diabetes.

ProSciento provides research services primarily to multinational pharmaceutical companies that need to conduct early stage clinical trials. These companies plan clinical trials from the early investigational drug development stage through to the pilot phase and execute these plans along the way.

But in addition to studying the effectiveness of new metabolic drugs, they help these companies meet all regulatory requirements to cover all aspects needed to efficiently conduct clinical trials. Another aspect in which the startup has made an impact is job creation: they also provide services such as evaluating the effectiveness of medical devices that monitor metabolic health indicators.

Through the health insights it evaluates and the data it obtains from conducting clinical trials, ProSciento advances medical knowledge and indirectly benefits healthcare providers, as they can make informed decisions using new research findings published by the startup.

Conclusion

These companies are first-hand proof of just how vibrant Chula Vista’s startup scene is. Many more are planned in every industry, from blockchain technology and cryptocurrency gambling to education and e-commerce. The City’s investments in empowering young residents to thrive with world-class tech skills are already starting to pay off. In areas like the gig economy, the healthcare industry and even the aerospace sector, Chula Vista is proving to be a dynamic little tech hub in the state.
