Dr. Nicole Grimes, CEO and Founder of Carib Biz Network (CBN), has been at the forefront of supporting Caribbean entrepreneurs in New York City through a series of impactful events and partnerships. Established as a pivotal hub for aspiring and microturbine founders, CBN aims to support, connect and empower entrepreneurs, guiding them through the complex business journey.
Recently, CBN, the small business networking organization, collaborated with JP Morgan on the Caribbean American Heritage Month event, “Chase Windows of Opportunity.” Speaking passionately about the event, Dr. Grimes highlighted CBN’s role in curating events throughout the year, both virtual and in-person, specifically for Caribbean business owners. These gatherings serve as important platforms to learn about financial opportunities, homeownership, and strategies to effectively leverage capital, ultimately aiming to close the racial wealth gap.

“We have been hosting events focused on financial literacy for small business owners, featuring a marketplace featuring Caribbean brands. The response has been very positive and encouraging and we hope to continue this. It is important to realize that success in life is something we can define ourselves as. We don’t have to limit ourselves to one path. We can pursue multiple endeavors and succeed in different ways. We should also think about our legacy – what we leave for our children, our communities and our families back home, not just through our work but through our service and contributions,” added Dr. Grimes.
A Trinidadian immigrant, Dr. Grimes brings a unique perspective to her role as leader of efforts to support Caribbean business owners. “Having grown up following a traditional path to success, I understand the importance of creating spaces where diverse entrepreneurial talent can thrive,” she said. Reflecting on her journey from a successful corporate career to founding CBN, she highlighted the positive community response and the impact of the recent Island Fest event held during Caribbean Heritage Month.

Island Fest was a series of seven events celebrating Caribbean culture and entrepreneurial spirit across a variety of interests and communities. From beauty and wellness showcases to networking opportunities and financial literacy workshops, the festival highlighted the breadth and depth of Caribbean influence in New York City. The overwhelming success of these events is a testament to the impact of CBN’s efforts.
Dr. Grimes expressed optimism about CBN’s future growth and its role in redefining success in the Caribbean community. He concluded, “We have the power to shape the definition of success and leave a lasting impact for future generations.” This reaffirms CBN’s commitment under Dr. Grimes’ visionary leadership to foster entrepreneurial excellence and community prosperity.
During the presentation, Akim Jones, Senior Business Consultant at Chase, outlined various strategies for small businesses to effectively leverage business loans and participate in City contract bids. Additionally, he discussed the Diversity Supplier Program and highlighted talent acquisition opportunities.
Kaleb Lewis, owner of Infinite Wealth Strategies, discussed the challenges facing small business owners and emphasized the importance of collaboration to overcome these obstacles and achieve success.
